11/18/2023 0 Comments Tokai springy sound st 60I'm not sure how it works with the Tokai Les Paul-clones, but with the Springy Sound (Strat-clones), there's a cut-off in the model line at which the pickups get better. How are the stock pickups in these guitars? Here's a little more info about the Les Paul Reborn: The old Tokais have been climbing in value and have their own little cult of "Japan Vintage" admirers. If you can find a Les Paul Reborn (in particular) or a Love Rock from back around 1978 - 1982, you're cooking with gas.Ī lot of the later Tokai stuff is built in Korea and is not up to the standards of the early lawsuit stuff built in Hamamatsu, Japan. Depending on your budget, you might want to keep an eye on that cut-off. I'm not sure, but I guess the polyester/nitro cut-off on the Love Rock side is around LS-80. On the Strat side (Springy Sound), you get an excellent polyester finish up to the ST-60. Some of the Love Rocks are also outstanding, but the model range spread out (LS-50, LS-60, LS-80, LS-100, LS-120, an on). The model name soon changed (due to legal pressure, I presume) to "Love Rock." The Les Paul Reborn was Tokai's first crack at the LP, and they are magnificent. I have read that Paul Stanley once said that the best Les Paul he ever played was a Tokai Love Rock. I haven't played a Tokai LP (Les Paul Reborn, Love Rock). Not to mention the gentle, natural relicing that only time can craft. Great old woods, and that chunky, resonant-necked authentic vibe of great old Fenders. These guitars compare very nicely with Custom Shop Fender stuff, imho. (See my pic in the Telecaster Obsession thread.) Then I dug up a vintage Tokai Breezysound (Telecaster). I eventually found an ST-80, nitro finish. It was the second best Strat I had ever played, bested only by a real deal '57 Strat a friend let me play decades ago. I was blown away by the quality! Excellent wood, great build quality. My crush started when I bought a vintage ('79) Tokai Springy Sound ST-60 (Strat) for my nephew. I've become a big fan of the old Tokais, the "spaghetti-logo" models in particular, in the last couple years.
